It is now close to two years now since DigiFarm was launched bringing smiles to the faces of many farmers across Kenya. The Kenya Livestock Producers Association (KLPA) has played a key role in supporting the dream of Safaricom in ensuring that the Kenyan farmer is liberated from the yoke of ignorance, lack of access to quality farm inputs, inadequate financing, lack of access to market for their produce and exploitation from greedy and merciless middlemen. KLPA staff have been working tirelessly to spread the gospel of DigiFarm and recruit farmers on to the platform.

DigiFarm believes in continuous learning and skills development and organized a capacity building seminar for KLPA staff on Saturday 11th May 2019 at the beautiful Mapple Inn in Ruiru. The seminar acted as a refresher training for the staff while at the same time introducing new materials. Key staff from 12 counties were in attendance.

It is said that the customer is king and for DigiFarm the farmer is the King. The staff were taken through the need to ensure that the farmers clearly understand what DigiFarm is, its purpose and how farmers can reap maximum benefits from the profit .Solomon Muigai Kamau from Safaricom’s DigiFarm was the lead facilitator at the seminar. The training was very interactive with the officers engaging role play and also asking question. The staff also shared experiences and challenges that they face in the field.

Soil testing is an important component of DigiFarm. In the past, many farmers in Kenya have been farming without having their soil tested and this has led to low yields. The staff were taken through the importance of soil testing. Mr. Gilbert Wachira, a field officer in Makueni County demonstrated to his colleagues how to use the soil testing kit.
